Stephen Mattie Obituary

Stephen P. Mattie Sr., 89, of Baden was received into eternal glory on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Heritage Valley Hospital, Sewickley with his family by his side.  He was born in Ambridge to Thomas and Anne Mattie.  He grew up on the family farm where he began his lifelong career in the produce business, never retiring.  A remarkable man who loved God and his country; he served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as an Army Ranger.  There he represented his division as an accomplished boxer.  He enjoyed fishing, sports and watching Ambridge football practice.  He attended all of his grandkid’s practices and games, coached and gave each his undivided attention.  Surviving is his wife, of 44 years, Ruth (Zehnder), sons, Stephen Jr. and Michael (Nancy), brothers in law, Tom (Becky) Zehnder and Lee Zehnder, stepchildren Karen (Randy) Mann, Sandy (Mick) Hudak, Marty (Jacque) Tokatch, Barbie (Fritz) McGeorge.  Grandchildren, Stephen III and Jesse Mattie, Samantha Glaab, AJ (Samantha) Vukovic, Aaron (Yuliya) Tokatch, Luke (Lisa) Tokatch, Erica (Mike) Ludwig and Hudson McGeorge.  Great grandchildren, Melissa, Daniel, Allison and Noah, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Very special friends at Hometown Produce in Canfield, Ohio, Paradise Pub, Talericos, Italian Villa, Duss Ave Café and Ba’Runis.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Mary Mattie and Anne Bennett and brothers, Thomas and Joseph.  All who knew Steve would agree that he was both tough and extremely generous.  There will be no viewing and internment will be private.  A celebration of Steve’s incredible journey will be at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity.
