Shirley J. (Hoover) Stephenson, 89, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, at Mercy House in Chambersburg, PA, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Clearfield, PA, Shirley lived a rich life defined by love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family. On October 26,1957, she married the love of her life, Ralph H. Stephenson, and together they embraced the adventure of military life—traveling the world, raising their children, and creating a legacy of love that spanned generations. They shared 49 beautiful years until Ralph's passing in 2006. Shirley proudly retired after more than 20 years of dedicated service at Waynesboro Hospital. She was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Waynesboro. Shirley loved playing the piano, cards, dancing, bible study, cheering on the Steelers, and supporting her grandchildren’s life events. Shirley is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph; her parents, Ward and Helen (Maurey) Hoover; brother Richard Hoover; sister Betty Hoover Maskrey; and just days after her passing, her brother Kenneth Hoover. She is survived by her children, Cynthia Bigler, Brian Stephenson and his wife Jessica, Jackie Mowen and her husband Sean , Eight grandchildren; Marty, Hollie, Caleb, Joe, Zach, Colby, Hunter, Dalton; Nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at the Corridoni Funeral Services, Inc., 1916 Moore Ave., North Apollo, PA, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, Visitation will be held at 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. A memorial service will follow, officiated by her grandson, Marty Bigler. Shirley will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery in Apollo, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Wounded Warriors, or Fisher House in Shirley’s memory. Shirley's life radiated love, generosity, and joy—a true matriarch whose legacy will forever be cherished.
