Robert John Machen

Robert John Machen, 77, of Apollo, Pa. passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, peacefully surrounded by his family at the VA Medical Center in Oakland, Pa. He was born on Saturday, July 19, 1947, in Wilkinsburg, Pa. the son of the late Rose Machen. He was a United States Army Veteran who received the Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star.  He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion of Plum. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating and loved to socialize with friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judith A. Borthwick Machen of Apollo, his children, Steven Machen of New Stanton, Mark Machen and his wife, Gina of Vandergrift and Brian Machen and his wife, Chrissy of Irwin, his step-children, John Shank (Peggy) of Upper Burrell, Kate Bowers (Randy) of Washington Twp., Annalee Laughlin (Rege) of Killbuck Twp., Barbara Hronyatz (Rocky) of Spring Church and Russell Shank (Melissa) of West Newton, his brothers, Keith George of Vandergrift and Harold George of Great Mills, MD. and numerous loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his Mother, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sherry and Nancy. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the North Apollo Church of God, 507 20th Street, North Apollo, Pa. 15673. Pastor Robert Shallenberger will officiate.
