Reverend Carey Stevens Obituary

Rev. Carey Stevens, aged 72, passed away Friday evening, April 29th, 2022, at his home after a brief illness. Carey was born on January 28th, 1950, to Henry L. and Una Mae Stevens. He attended and graduated from Fifth Avenue High School in Pittsburgh, PA., where he was on the swim team, ran track, and was co-captain of his varsity football team. Carey excelled in academics and won a four-year full scholarship to Carnegie Mellon University and graduated with a B.S. in Structural Engineering in 1974. He continued his education earning a E.I.T. Certificate in 1978, a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1971, and a C.A.D. Certificated in 1987.  Carey also kept up with his athletic pursuits. He trained in Boxing, ran in the Pittsburgh Marathon, and earned a double black belt in Martial Arts.

Carey received God’s call on his life when he was in Junior High. He was being groomed to become part of a gang when God spoke to him and “No. I have other plans for your life”. From that day on, he never looked back on what was, but was always looking forward to what is. Carey accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at Monumental Baptist Church in Pittsburgh.  Later he rededicated his life in 2004 when he became a member of Divine Order Tabernacle, in Avonmore PA. It was there that he met his beautiful and loving wife Victoria L Banks Stevens. Carey and Vicki married on September 25, 2005 and celebrated 16 years of love.

Carey began training to be a Deacon, but soon realized his call was to preach God’s Word. In the fall of 2005, he began training to become a Minister and was Licensed August 12th, 2007. During this time, he revealed his passion for street ministry and began preaching in the streets of Pittsburgh, along with his brothers in Christ Rev. Keith Cash and Rev. Harlan Humphries. He served as the Sunday School Superintendent and taught Bible Study. He was ordained July 13, 2013, by the late Rev. Bertha Banks. He was installed as Pastor of Divine Order Tabernacle in May of 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Una Mae (Waters) Stevens, and two sisters Bertha (Stevens) Doss and Henrietta Stevens. He leaves behind his wife Victoria (Banks)Stevens, his sister Dana L. (Stevens) Rector, his sons Carey Stevens Jr, and Colin Stevens, both of Bellevue; Lorin-Keith A. Walker and Dorian J.
