Raymond Allen “Buzz” Bussard, 87, of Avonmore, passed away Monday, May 13, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Wednesday, September 30, 1936, in Arona, PA, the son of the late Raymond Floyd and Laura Charlotte Nelson Bussard. Before his retirement, Buzz was a coal miner at both Renton and Tunneltown Mines. Buzz was an avid Steeler fan, loved hunting, fishing, playing cards, bird watching and cutting grass. He enjoyed time spent with family, loved his dogs and it could be said he could fix anything. When his children were younger, he enjoyed building, through carpentry, many items from toys to furniture. Buzz was a past member of the Avonmore Water Authority, Avonmore Council and a very loyal fireman. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was deacon, trustee, member of the session, and even at times caretaker to God’s House. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Jean Hall Bussard, four children, Patricia Ann Richards and her husband, Paul, of Maine, Alan Raymond Bussard and his wife, Heather, of Apollo, June Laura Proviano and her husband, Mark, of Oklahoma Borough and Lisa Pearl McLaughlin and her husband, Reverend T.J. of Oklahoma Borough, Nine grandchildren; Bobby Sanoske and his wife, Nicole, of Penn Hills, Jennifer Brown and her husband, Chris, of Maine, Amanda Groff and her husband, Bobby, of East Vandergrift, Heather Bussard and James Bussard of Pitcairn, Ryan Proviano and his wife, Marissa, of Parks Township, Max Proviano and his wife, Liz, of Avonmore, Cassidee Rogers, and her husband, Thomas, of Avonmore and Michael Roberts of Oklahoma Borough. 10 great grandchildren, a brother, Ronald Bussard, and his wife, Kay, of Plum Boro, and a sister, Shirley Moore of New Stanton. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday May 25, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Avonmore with Pastors Lynn Mance and T.J. McLaughlin officiating.
