Orville Shaffer Obituary

Orville Eugene “Beans” Shaffer, 94, of Apollo, PA passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born Monday, May 24, 1926, in Oklahoma Boro, the son of the late William Harvey and Myrtle Mae Hartman Shaffer.  He was a United States Navy Veteran, serving during World War II on the USS Salt Lake City.  Before his retirement he was employed by the Glassport Foundry where he was an expert brick layer and relined furnaces.  His passion was golfing, and airplanes, he, along with his family, attended numerous air shows.  He will always be remembered for his crazy sense of humor.  Orville was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and a devoted husband to his “child bride” of 68 years, Yvonne Larue Graham Shaffer.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Harvey “Skip” Eugene Shaffer and Christine of Apollo, Mindy Mae Shaeffer and her husband, Robert, of Palmyra, PA,  Cheryl Ann Walter, and her husband, Reverend Paul W., of Galion, Ohio and Samuel Neven Shaffer and his wife, Elizabeth A, of Jackson, Michigan, 9 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; his sister, Gladys Zimmerman and her husband, James, of Mansfield, Ohio, his brother, Ira M Shaffer and his wife, Louise, of Penn Hills and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Vernon and Lawrence Shaffer and a sister, Lois Walters.   Family will receive friends on Monday, April 26, 2021, from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM in the Apollo Free Methodist Church, 1027 State Route 56, Apollo, PA  15613, with Reverend Brandon Robinson, Reverend Forest States and Orville’s son-in-law, Reverend Paul Walter officiating.  Masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be enforced.  Internment will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Apollo, PA.  Family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Beans' memory to The Apollo Free Methodist Church.
