Miriam Ruth (Jackson) Smith

Miriam Ruth Jackson Smith, 86, of Avonmore, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, Pa.  She was born on Sunday, October 18, 1936 in Avonmore, Pa. the daughter of the late John H. and Mary F. Fitzgerald Jackson. Before her retirement, she was a LPN for Indiana Hospital and the Communities of Indian Haven. She was member of the Hebron Lutheran Church where she was very active, the Avonmore Senior Center and the Historical Society of Avonmore and the Apollo Historical Society. Ruth was involved with the Girl Scouts for 55 years. She loved to garden, do arts and crafts, sew and take day trips. Ruth is the last surviving member of the John & Mary Fitzgerald-Jackson family. She is survived by her daughters; Christine S. Broadwater and her husband, Richard, of North Apollo and Cheryl Ann Smith of Avonmore, 2 grandsons; Eric Justin Johnston (Erica Ramey) of Schenley and Kevin James Johnston and his wife, Ashley, of Muse, Pa. and 3 great granddaughters; Emily, Ruby and Sylvia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Clarence Alfred Smith, her brother; Russell Jackson and her sisters; June Costa, Muriel Kazor and Mary Morgan. Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Hebron Lutheran Church, 601 Cambria Ave., Avonmore, Pa. Funeral Services will be held at the Hebron Lutheran Church on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 7:00 PM with Pastor Keith McCutcheon, officiating. Interment will take place at Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont, Pa. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ruth’s memory to the Hebron Lutheran Church in Avonmore, Pa.
