Max Albert Smith

Max Albert Smith,88, of Bedford, Pa. formerly of Vandergrift passed away Friday September 4, 2020 at UPMC Altoona Hospital in Altoona, Pa.  He was born Monday May 2, 1932 in Punxsutawney, the son of the late George A. and Alpha Hazlett Smith. Before his retirement, he was employed as a carpenter in the construction industry. Max was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. He loved spending time in the outdoors, hunting, fishing and shooting. He is survived by his son, Dan Smith and his wife, Margaret, of Bedford, two grandchildren; Daniel M. Smith and Whitney M. Smith, and a great grandson Kale D. Howsare and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Max was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley F. Morgan Smith. He was raised with 8 siblings; Annabelle Neal (Deceased.), George A. Smith of (Buckhannon, Virginia) Betty A. Devan (Gary) of (Salem, Ohio),  Sally A. Jones (Thomas) of ( Dubois, Pa.) Susan M. Suhm (Randall) of (Sweetwater, Texas) Robert L. Smith (Tara) of (Harris, Missouri) Mark Smith (Deceased) and Harry Smith (Deceased).  A graveside service and burial will be held on Wednesday September 9, 2020 at Riverview Cemetery in Apollo at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Lee Rupert officiating. Military Honors will be performed. Family and friends are encouraged to attend.
