Matthew Joseph Petika

Matthew Joseph Petika, 80, of Avonmore, Pa., passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Family Hospice at Canterbury Place in Pittsburgh, Pa.  He was born on Saturday, October 2, 1940 in Verona, Pa., the son of the late Frank and Josephine Airhart Petika. Before his retirement, he was employed by Edgewater Steel as a steel worker. He was a United States Army Veteran having served in the Vietnam War. He enjoyed fishing and watching football and hockey. Matt was very family orientated and a loving husband, father and son to his family.  He is survived by his children, Matthew Petika and his wife, Penny, of Murrysville, Mark Petika and his wife, Nikki, of Avonmore and Joshua Petika and his wife, Maria, of New Kensington, 6  grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and his sisters; Genevieve Secrist of Fawn Twp., Celeste Wilkinson and her husband, Marty, of Iowa and Paula Cecil and her husband, Rich, of Florida. In addition to his parents, Matthew was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Ann Airhart Petika. A private graveside service will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 at Westview Cemetery with Father John Harrold, officiating.
