Lawrence E. “Larry” Askins, 80, of Iselin (Young Twp.) passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was born on Monday, August 2, 1943, in Iselin, Pa., the son of the late Curtis and Helen Wargo Askins. Before his retirement, he was a UMWA coal miner for 31 years at Jane Mine, Luzerne #9 and Marshal Run. He was a member of the C & Y Sportsman’s Club, the Saltsburg American Legion Post 57 and the Polish Falcon Club in New Castle. He enjoyed fishing but his greatest joy was spending time with his family and going to his grandchildren’s sporting events. He is survived by his daughters, Christine Arreola and her husband, Dr. Rodolfo Arreola of Erie, Kelly Gamble and her husband, Larry of Apollo, his son, Shawn Askins of Slippery Rock, 4 grandchildren, Bronte” Arreola, Elan Arreola, Morgan Gamble and Lauren Gamble and his sisters, Karen Shorter and her husband, Bob of New York, Debra Semuskie and her husband, Timothy of Iselin and Brenda Clayton and her husband, Harold of Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna F. Huey Askins, his son, Curtis Askins and a brother, Ronald Askins. Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Corridoni Funeral Services, Inc., 400 Indiana Ave., Avonmore, Pa. Funeral Services will take place in the funeral home at 4:00 PM with Pastor Bob Shallenberger, officiating. Interment will be private.
