John Henry Hollis, 96, of North Apollo passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023, at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville. He was born Tuesday, May 4, 1926, in Apollo, the son of the late John and Mae Gamble Hollis. Before his retirement in 1983, he was employed by the Veterans Hospital in Oakland as a supervisor in the laundry department. He was a United States Navy Veteran. John was a member of the Vandergrift American Legion Post #114 in Vandergrift, the VFW Post #566 also in Vandergrift, the PNA #791 in East Vandergrift, the Slovak Club in North Vandergrift, the Slovak Club in East Vandergrift, and the Bari Club in Vandergrift. He enjoyed playing cards, going to camp, traveling with his wife, Nancy, selling tickets for the various clubs he belonged to, spending time with his family and his beloved cat, Midnight. He is survived by three children, James Hollis and his wife, Janet, of Apollo, Debra Caporali and her husband, Joseph, of Kepple Hill and Randy Hollis of North Apollo. Two grandchildren, Christopher Wysocki and his partner, Robert Fulbright, of Charlotte, NC, and Jodi Reedy of Leechburg. One sister, Nancy Libengood, of Apollo, two brothers, Clarence Hollis and his wife, Janice, of Apollo and Larry Hollis (Gloria Bier) of North Apollo, numerous great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Davison Hollis, in 2013, his brothers, Robert and Frank Hollis and his sister, Clara “Toots” Cunningham. Family will receive friends on Monday, April 17, 2023, from 5:00 PM until time of parting prayer services at 7:00 pm in the Kelly L. Corridoni Funeral Home, 1916 Moore Avenue, North Apollo, PA 15673, Father James Lowe will officiate. Interment will be private.
