Joanne Elaine McComb

Joanne Elaine McComb, 90, of Bloomsburg, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at her home. She was born on Wednesday, March 1, 1933 in Avonmore, Pa., the daughter of the late Paul and Myra Walker McComb. Before her retirement, she first taught at Penn-Trafford Joint School System in Claridge, Pa. for 6 years and then taught Health and Physical Education at Bloomsburg University for 26 years and worked part time in administration at the university. She coached basketball and was the Athletic Director.  She graduated from Avonmore High School in 1950, received her bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University in Health and Physical Education in 1954, her master’s degree from Penn State University and did post graduate work at West Virginia University and other institutions. She played first base for the All American Girls Professional Baseball League. The league was later inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, NY. Joanne was a member of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League Players Association and the Association of Penn State University and the University of Retired Faculties. In her spare time, she taught First Aid and CPR for the Red Cross, volunteered with the Columbia-Montour Hospice program and enjoyed reading. She is survived by her nieces, Tammy Bonnoni and her husband, Sam, of Freedom and Paula Adkins and her husband, Chass, of Coraopolis and her great nieces and nephews, Angelo Bonnoni, Geno Bonnoni, Kayla Houghton and Matthew Houghton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings; Jeanne McComb and Kenneth McComb. A private family visitation was held on Monday, June 26, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM at the Kelly L. Corridoni Funeral Home LTD., 400 Indiana Ave., Avonmore, Pa. Funeral Services were held in the funeral home on Monday, June 26, 2023 at 2:30 PM with Pastor Lee Rupert officiating. Interment took place at the Lutheran Cemetery in Spring Church, Pa.
