James Raymond Shockey 95 of Cabot, formerly of Kiski Twp., passed away on Thursday December 17, 2020 at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights, Pa. He was born on Saturday July 25, 1925 in Kiski Twp., the son of the late Clarence (Kites) and Wilda Patterson Shockey. Before his retirement he was employed by USS Research Center in Monroeville for over 35 years. He served in the US Navy Armed Guard during WWII as a gunner’s mate. He was commissioned on the SS Aquarius, SS Marine Raven, SS George Handley, USS Jason, and the USS Black Hawk. Raymond was also recorded in the Navy Log in Washington DC. He was a member of the North Apollo Church of God, the Kiski Twp. American Legion, the Masonic Lodge # 437 in Apollo, the Coudersport Scottish Rite Consistory, Syria Shrine, Shrine Motor Corps, Hillbilly Clan # 53, Clans # 13 and #16 (of which he was past president) and Clan # 22, a life member of the Vandergrift VFW, and the U.S. Steel Social Club. Raymond loved the outdoors, and spent a great deal of time keeping his property pristine and his yard immaculate. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to camp in Tionesta. He will always be remembered as a patient, kind, caring, and selfless man, and Awesome Father and Grandfather. He is survived by four children; R. Alan Shockey ( Nancy) of Sylacauga, Alabama, Shirley Dick (Don )of Washington Twp., Brenda Kaskan (Ted )of Spring Church, and Marcia Costa ( Glenn) of Allegheny Twp., 7 grandchildren, 10 greatgrandchildren and 2 great-greatgrandchildren, and his second wife, Harriet M. Johnston Selagyi Shockey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of thirty-one years June Walters Shockey, his sister Irene Gallagher, his brother Clarence Shockey and a great grandchild, Cotton Davis. Due to concerns with the current Covid 19 pandemic, a Memorial Service for Raymond will be held at a later date. Family suggests contributions be made in Raymond’s Memory and Honor to the Parkinson’s Foundation of Western Pennsylvania, 575 Lincoln Ave., Bellevue, Pennsylvania 15202.
