Harold R. Stonebraker, 93, of Avonmore, PA, passed away on December 9, 2024. He was a dedicated and hardworking man that always put the needs of others before his own. Born on December 2, 1931, in Phillipsburg, PA, he was one of seven children to Kenneth and Edith Stonebraker.
Harold, known by all as “Jook”, worked for General Manufacturing as a foreman in the Salina Brickyard until it closed and later retired from Winchester Industry. He honorably served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during that time.
Jook was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Married to his wife Sophie (d. 2012) for 43 years, he cared deeply for her and showed his family what love meant. A father to Gregory (Karen) and Jeff (Cindy), grandfather to Samantha (Shawn), Eric (Lizzy), Joshua (Haley), and Haley (Cameron), and a great-grandfather to Elliott and Lillah.
He treasured his time with his family. He loved playing rounds of melts and runs, always had a puzzle in the works, liked to watch old Westerns and football, was an amazing gardener that grew the sweetest strawberries, made waffles every Sunday, and made the best homemade nut rolls, pies, and especially, peach cobbler. You could always guarantee there was dessert after dinner, whether it was a scoop of ice cream, a piece of cake, or a cookie with reheated coffee.
He was lucky enough to have two great-grandchildren that he adored. His laugh and smile would light up the room when he got to spend time with Elliott and Lillah.
Harold’s memory will remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him and will be deeply missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 14 at 10:00 am at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, 505 Cambria Ave., Avonmore, Pa., with Father Salvatore Lamendola as Celebrant.
