Eleanor Susan Bella Brueggeman was born In Ellet, Ohio on Wednesday, April 29, 1931. She went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at Windber Hospital on Tuesday October 4, 2022 at the age of 91. She lived in North Apollo, PA, for 61 years and currently was residing with her daughter, Ellen E. Stewart, since the spring of 2020. She married William Wade Brueggeman on December 26,1950 and remained married until the death of her husband on January 1, 2004. She was the last surviving member of her family of origin.
Eleanor and Bill had five children. She is survived by Connie S. Case (Mike) of Oak Harbor, OH, Janet C. Hancock (Jeff) of Sligo, PA, and Ellen E. Stewart (Dr. James) of Johnstown, PA, nineteen grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her sons, Gary W. Brueggeman, Timothy W. Brueggeman, and grandson, Aaron W. Bartel.
Eleanor was a beautiful, creative soul who taught herself to play the piano, compose music, a writer of inspirational poetry, baker of interesting recipes, and tried to do everything that she could to honor Jesus. She had an eye for beauty and taught her children to pay attention to the little things in life. She noticed lovely sunsets, flowers, leaves, clouds, and was imaginative in the way that she saw the world and people. She enjoyed playing cards with her family, picnics, attending Bible Studies, writing and receiving letters, drawing, ice cream, and corn-on-the-cob. She will be remembered for having an optimistic spirit, her Christmas cookies, her desire to connect with people, and her big brown eyes, like ‘root beer suckers’. She had a tenacious spirit and survived Rheumatic Fever, Covid, and a heart attack.
Eleanor was the President of the Lutheran Women’s Society and Key 73. She was active at the First Lutheran Church in Vandergrift, PA for most of her life and attended church regularly. She was involved in Vacation Bible School, creating special presentations for church, and helped her husband at Wade’s Shoe Store, where she could match any color when dying poteswa pumps. She will be sorely missed.
