Edward Eugene Shaffer, 85, of Avonmore, Pa. passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at UPMC East in Monroeville, Pa. He was born on Wednesday, February 7, 1940 in Avonmore, Pa., the son of the late Harvey L. Sr. and Esther M. Alsippi Shaffer. Before his retirement, he was a machine operator at National Roll in Avonmore, Pa. for over 37 years. He was a United States Army Veteran having served in Germany. He loved sports, golf, football, baseball and basketball. For over 40 years, Ed coached midget football at Vandergrift and Slickville and varsity football at Apollo Ridge, Saltsburg and Leechburg. He also coached 9th grade basketball at Apollo Ridge. He loved to have family and friends at his home and socializing but his wife, Bonnie, was the love of his life. He is survived by his sons, Eric V. Shaffer and his wife, Nadine of Avonmore and Lance A. Shaffer and his wife, Bernadette of Apollo, 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta “Bonnie” Prenni Shaffer, his children; Edward E. Shaffer Jr., Valerie M. Leda, Shawn B. Shaffer and Brett M. Shaffer, his brothers, Harvey L. Shaffer Jr. and Robert Shaffer, his twin brothers; Ronald & Donald Shaffer and his sisters; Mary Hinzy, Virginia “Ginny” Ward, Gloria Rokicsak and Dorothy Fontana. Family will receive friends on Friday, March 28, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Corridoni Funeral Services, Inc., 400 Indiana Ave., Avonmore, Pa. 15618. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, 505 Cambria Ave., Avonmore, Pa. 15618 with Father Mark Dunmire as celebrant. Interment will be held at Westview Cemetery, Avonmore, Pa.
