David A. Phelps, a native of Erie who made Greenville, North Carolina his home for most of his life, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025.
Born on December 29, 1952, to the late Gerald and Shirley Phelps, David was one of thirteen children. He was married to Jenny Phelps for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, Ron, and Kevin Phelps.
David is survived by six sisters: Carin (Ron) Dorn, Sandra L. Phelps, Joyce E. Phelps, Marilyn D. (Dennis) Breckley, Betty J. Rhines, and Robin D. (Brian) Lear; and three brothers: John R. (Eileen) Phelps, Jeffrey P. (Laong) Phelps, and Robert D. Phelps.
He is also survived by his children: Carl Rychel, Nicole P. (Justin) Lynch, Stephanie L. Phelps, Tiffany P. (Eric) Lynch, Brittany L. Phelps, David A. Phelps Jr., and Kayla P. (Daryl) Parker, as well as 14 cherished grandchildren.
David worked as a civilian contractor overseas for nine years and spent much of his life as a truck driver, most recently with Hardinger Trucking. Known for his strong work ethic, David also valued his time off, often enjoying a steak and salad with his dear friend Wendy Miller and spending time at their favorite local spot, The Alibi.
In keeping with David’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. His family deeply appreciates the love, support, and kind messages received during this difficult time.
