Carol Parker Obituary

Carol Sober Parker, wife, mother and kid-at-heart died peacefully from dementia at Memory Meadows Personal Care Home surrounded by family and caregivers who loved her so.  Carol went to be with her Lord, on January 16th at the age of 75. Carol is survived by her husband Kip Parker, a brother George Sober (Marlene), her 3 children Shelley Sherbondy, Brenda Miskinis (Greg) and Dan Sherbondy (Tanya) and 5 grandchildren Mary Sulava (Aaron), Kristen Miskinis, John Miskinis, Eli Sherbondy and Nick Sherbondy.     Carol also leaves many ‘children’ that she had the privilege to mother throughout her lifetime.  She is predeceased by her dad, Daniel “Bob” Sober and mom, Mildred Sober Hindes.
Carol was born on January 27th 1944 in Gilpin Township of Leechburg Pennsylvania.  She raised her family on Gosser Hill in the Kiski Area, Wallingford Connecticut and Leechburg.  She worked in the food service industry in school cafeterias, nursing homes and Bonello’s restaurant and she was a church secretary for many years.  However, Carol’s life’s work was one of service to others.  She found joy in serving God by showing compassion for everyone who crossed her path.   She invited strangers into her home for meals, cared for the elderly, bought clothes for those in need and the list goes on and on.  She also cared for every animal that she found in our yard after a storm, volunteered at animal shelters, loved to ride horses and treasured her pets.  She loved deeply and quietly shared that love with all she met.
Carol served on many church committees, counseled at Camp Allegheny Horse camps, was a youth group advisor and girl scout leader.  She was an avid crafter and loved to make something beautiful out of a discarded item.  She also loved to paint, garden, play games of all kinds, ride roller coasters, go camping, play her accordion and spoil her grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial Service on February 8th at 1 pm at Community Church of Pine Run-EMC 190 Pine Run Church Rd. Apollo.   In lieu of flowers or donations, we ask that you honor Carol’s life by doing something kind and unexpected for someone around you.  You could give a meal to a single parent, plant flowers for an elderly neighbor or just sit and visit with someone who is lonely, as this is how she lived her life.  She knew the secret… that in giving you receive great joy in return, so be joyful!
