Bruce G. Johnson

Bruce G. Johnson, 98 of Salina, Pa. passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at his home. He was born on Tuesday, September 23, 1924 in Mill Hall, Pa. the son of the late Howard and Bhuela Sellars Johnson. Upon graduating from Mill Hall High School in 1942, he worked as a pattern maker for Harbison Walker. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Force as a nose gunner on a B-24 in the European Theater. He earned the Air Metal with two oak leaf clusters. After returning to civilian life, Bruce resumed working as a pattern maker at Harbison Walker in Monument, Pa. He then worked for General Refractors in Beech Creek, Pa. and in West Decatur. In 1959, he and his family moved to Salina, Pa. where he continued working for General Refractors. In 1973, he opened Johnson’s Pattern and Machine Shop. In 1995, his son took over the business allowing his father to retire from such an active role. Bruce was a Past Master of Williamson Lodge No. 431 in 1966 and is a 32nd Degree Mason. He was also a member of the Salina Bible Church and the American Legion Post No. 18. His greatest past-time was playing golf. He was an avid reader of poetry and enjoyed reciting poems. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He is survived by his son; Dennis Bruce Johnson and his wife, Cindy, his daughter; Cheri Fay Steuart, 4 grandchildren; Julie Steuart, Jeffrey Steuart, Heather Stiffy and her husband, Larry and Heidi Shupe and her husband, Michael, 4 great grandchildren; Travis and Olivia Stiffy and Jimmy and Morgan Shupe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Fay J. Spangler Johnson, 4 brothers; Norman, Stanley, Vernon and Lynn Johnson and a sister; Frances Grieb. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Kelly L. Corridoni Funeral Home LTD, 400 Indiana Ave., Avonmore, Pa. Funeral Services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Paul Reiner, officiating. Interment will be held at Twin Valley Memorial Park in Delmont, Pa.
