Joseph J. "Boob" Franzi

Joseph John “Boob” Franzi 92 of Avonmore passed away Sunday August 13, 2017 at his home. He was born October 13, 1924 in Salina the son of the late Lorenzo and Josephine Certo Franzi. Before his retirement he was employed by Leechburg Mining Company (Brownstown Mine) and Canterbury Coal Company for over forty seven years. He was a United States Navy Veteran having served during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. “Boob” was a member of the Saint Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Avonmore, the American Legion Post # 18 in Slickville, the Apollo Elks #386, and the VFW Post 7901 in Avonmore. He enjoyed golfing and working in his garden. He is survived by his sister, Catherine Morabito of Avonmore, his brother Salvatore “Sam” Franzi of Latrobe, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lena Barbara Markitell Franzi, and four brothers; Anthony, Frank, Lawrence, and Placito. Family will receive friends on Wednesday August 16, 2017 from 3:00P.M. Until 7:00 P.M. in the Kelly L. Corridoni Funeral Home Ltd. 400 Indiana Ave, Avonmore, Pa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday August 17th at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Avonmore. Father John Harrold will be celebrant.
