Charles Carl Catania

Charles Carl Catania, 96, of Saltsburg, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2019 at Beacon Ridge in Indiana, Pa.  He was born Friday, December 8, 1922, in Avonmore, Pa., the son of the late Salvatore and Santa DeGrazia Catania. He was a United States Merchant Marine who served during World War II as a Stationery Engineer on the Caleb Strong, Seal Mariner, Marine Fox and the Alcoa Trader.  Before his retirement he owned Chuck & Jean’s Tavern in Saltsburg, then  finished his career as an insurance agent for Prudential.  He enjoyed gardening, music, dancing with his wife, Jean, and being with his family. He will be cherished as the family historian. He is survived by 3 children, Charla Rots and her husband, Paul, of Florida, Andrea Cocovich of South Carolina and Michol Catania of Harrisburg, Pa., 3 grandchildren, Richard Cocovich of S.C., Jennifer Demor of S.C., Michol Cocovich of Pa and 3 great grandchildren, Marisa Demor of Ca., Vincent Demor of Fl., and Alessandro Cocovich of Pa. and his sister Rita Pendylshok  and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Verona Catania in 2006, his son, Charles Salvatore Catania in 1990, a grandson, Paul “PJ” Rots in 1994, his son-in-law, Richard Cocovich and 5 sisters, Mary Currieri, Sadie Cicala, Lucy Previtt, Frances Ashbaugh and Rose Abate. Family will receive friends on Friday, December 6, 2019 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the Kelly L. Corridoni Funeral Home LTD, 400 Indiana Ave., Avonmore, Pa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 12:30PM in St. Matthew Church, 501 Cathedral St., Saltsburg, Pa. with Father John as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Matthew Cemetery in Saltsburg, Pa.
