Reed Aker Kness

 Reed A. Kness, 93, of Apollo, Pa passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at West Haven Manor in Washington Twp. He was born on Saturday, November 14, 1923 in Apollo, Pa. the son of the late Kenneth M. and Twila G. Aker Kness.  Before his retirement, he was employed as a metal fabricator at Apollo Fabricating formerly known as Raychord.  Reed was a United States Army Veteran stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Fort Bragg, North Carolina with the 503rd Military Police Battalion. He will always be remembered for his many talents and abilities such as fixing and repairing radios and televisions that no one else would tackle. He enjoyed recreational boating and built 3 highly functioning boats from scratch. Reed enjoyed traveling with his wife and especially their trips to the Indianapolis 500. To his friends in the HAM operating circle, he was known as KA3FMR.  He is survived by a brother, Russell D. “Boots” Kness and his wife, Ellen Jane (Coleman) of Apollo.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J .Gamble, in August of 2008, a brother, Wayne K. Kness and a nephew Christopher L. Kness in 2001. Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 1PM until time of services at 4PM in the Kelly L. Corridoni Funeral Home LTD, 1916 Moore Ave., North Apollo, Pa. Services will be conducted at 4PM in the funeral home with Pastor Lea Austin, officiating.  Interment will be held in Vandergrift Cemetery.
