Eleanor (Quarato) Linkes

Eleanor Quarato Linkes, 92, of Kittanning, formerly of Parks Township, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Armstrong County Care Center. She was born Nov. 22, 1923, in Vandergrift, a daughter of the late Dominic and Annuziata Equatore Quarato. Before her retirement, she was employed at United States Steel Corp for eight years where she ran all of the IBM equipment, and at Lackey's Dairy Queen in North Apollo for 23 years. She was a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church in Vandergrift and the East Vandergrift Senior Citizens Center. Eleanor was a graduate of Vandergrift High School, Class of 1941, and the IBM School in Pittsburgh. She enjoyed working outside, shooting pool with her pool league and watching all Pittsburgh sports teams, especially the Pirates. She is survived by a grandson, Jason Linkes, of Fresno, Calif.; and a granddaughter Chelsie Linkes, of Leechburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Linkes, in 2002; two sons, Joseph C. Linkes Jr. and Dennis A. Linkes; two brothers, John and William Quarato; and five sisters, Angeline Angelozzi, Mary C. Tarosky, Rachel E. McCann and Virginia and Genevieve Quarato. Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2016, in the KELLY L. CORRIDONI FUNERAL HOME LTD., 1916 Moore Ave., North Apollo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in the St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church in Vandergrift with Father Loew, OSB, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Gertrude Church Cemetery.
